The Protectorate was ten years old. Carl
Slade had been a Police Counsellor for five of those years, and his job
and everything behind it were weighing on him. No longer could he accept
the Protectioners' teachings with all their contradictions. Yet as far as
he could tell there seemed to be nothing else to hold onto -- until
Chester Brown and then Emma Winston were assigned to him for Counselling.
The result was a drastic change in Carl's life. He had to flee to a
neighbouring country to save his and Emma's life. However, the state of
his country was always on his mind and he knew that somehow he would go
back to share with his countrymen the Truth he had finally
found. |
[This is a sequel to Sonata for Flute and is set in the Federation of Pamanyungan, successor to the former Protectorate, four years after the events of Sonata for Flute.]

Carl Slade has been invited to preach by several churches in Goldridge. When he arrives in that town, however, he finds that the situation is not quite what it should be. He is befriended by a local pastor who has been kicked out of his church, a gang of teenagers, and an elderly couple who want to try and sort out the mess. What Carl didn't expect was that a trap was being laid for him. He manages to escape, but later he returns to Goldridge with his family and his mentor George Newman. They and their new friends are determined to solve the mystery of the strange happenings and to help get the believers in Goldridge back on track. |

The birth of Carl and Emma Slade's third child brings big changes to the life of their family. As Benjamin grows up, they not only face the challenges of bringing up a child who is different from other children, they also become aware of other families that face the same problems. Many of these families are unable to cope in a society which offers them no support. It is up to the Slades and their friends to provide a way of helping. As they do so they discover that there are other people in their country whose intentions towards such children are far less than noble. |
